How to configure a Paging Server to page to Polycom phones:

Paging Server firmware version 7.2.0 featured the addition of Polycom Group Paging support. The Paging Server can send multicast pages to Polycom phones running UC software versions 4.0.0 and higher.

The Polycom Group Paging multicast transmitted by the Paging Server is G.711Mu encoded with a payload size of 20 ms. The Paging Server assumes the Polycom phones are configured to listen to an odd-numbered port. On default, Polycom phones are configured to listen to 224.0.1.116:5001.

On the Device Config page of the Paging Server’s web interface, check the box to Enable Polycom Paging on Multicast and select a Polycom Transit Channel. The Polycom Transit Channel must match a Polycom Group Paging group enabled on the phones.

The Enable Polycom Paging on Multicast option results in a multicast transmission sent to the specified group address and port number, and a Polycom multicast transmission sent to the specified group address and [port number+1]. Group multicast address and port numbers are configured on the PGROUPs Config page.

On the PGROUPs Config page of the Paging Server’s web interface, enter the Polycom Group Paging address and next lower port number for the desired paging group. If the Polycom phones are listening to 224.0.1.116:5001, then enter 224.0.1.116 for the Paging Group Address and 5000 for the Paging Group Port.

When configuring Polycom phones for their Group Paging feature, be sure the following settings are configured:

  • Payload Size = 20 ms (milliseconds)
  • Codec = G.711Mu
